Taking a bold step, Congress old guard leader Digvijaya Singh has asked Rahul Gandhi, Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition, to take strong action against BJP sympathizers inside the party. This comes on the heels of recent statements by Rahul Gandhi about the organizational loopholes of the Congress in Gujarat, which has been out of power for almost three decades.

Rahul Gandhi's remarks on Gujarat Congress

Rahul Gandhi on Saturday, March 8, charged Gujarat Congress leadership and party workers with double standard. He said, "Half of them are committed to the people, they fight for them, respect them, and have the Congress ideology in their heart. The others are distant from the people, sit in a distance, don't respect them, and half of them are with the BJP." Gandhi was also of the view that the party's first task would be to eliminate these two types of individuals, even if one needs to go to an extreme like sending people.

Personal experience and RSS criticism by Digvijaya Singh

Digvijaya Singh remembered a personal experience when he was Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh when he was advised not to criticize the RSS while campaigning in Gujarat as it would provoke the Hindu community. Singh also made a scathing attack on the BJP and its ideological guru, the RSS, for exploiting Hindus in the name of religion. "The fact is that the RSS does not speak for Hindus, but it plays on and uses them in the name of religion," he accused.

Questioning RSS's legitimacy

Digvijaya Singh also raised doubts about the credibility of RSS by inquiring which among the popular Hindu religious leaders such as Shankaracharyas today are in favor of the organization. He further added that the Shankaracharya dynasty has existed for thousands of years and continues to exist today.
